Events

Enriching our community through events bring joy, dignity, and meets the needs.

The why: To create opportunities for residents to connect, collaborate, and contribute to the betterment of our community through engaging and impactful events, such as block parties, National Night Out, and community giveaways.

1.      To plan and execute an annual block party. "Groove in Oak Grove" is a vibrant block party that celebrates the rich cultural tapestry of our community, featuring live music, delicious food, and engaging activities for all ages.

2.      To plan and execute on the first Tuesday of every August, a National Night Out celebration to foster stronger relationships with local first responders and promote community safety, while also providing essential supplies to local students through a Back-to-School Giveaway to benefit Oak Grove students.

3.      Planning and executing an annual Holiday Toy/Gift Card Drive with Hot Cocoa and Santa.

Impact: By hosting events like Groove in Oak Grove, National Night Out, and the Santa Reception, we aim to strengthen community bonds, raise awareness of important social issues, and promote equity for all residents of Oak Grove. These events foster a sense of belonging, encourage dialogue, and create opportunities for positive change.

Assessment: Measures will be to increase volunteers as the year progresses, by keeping and maintaining attendance records, and by a count of toy and giveback supplies.

Easter Egg Hunt

Our inaugural Easter Egg Hunt started with about 800 eggs, and the hopes of maybe 50 attendees. Oak Grove Neighborhood Association, brought food, hydration, laughter, a bounce house, the ambulance, fire, and city officials out. This event totalled over 175 attendees!

Next year we have about 1600 eggs ready to be filled, and are working with parks and rec to have power restored at the playground so that we can add live music and maybe even cotton candy to the event’s details.

Back to School Event

Our 2025 Back to School Event was a massive success with over 400 bookbags given to RPS families, getting people connected to over a dozen city offices or nonprofits. We fed everyone a meal, kept them hydrated, had fun with a bounce house, music, and games.

Hopeful other yearly events will soon include:

  • OGNA Yearly Reception

  • Holiday Toy Drive and Santa Reception
